Tips to make sick beats and win in high stakes card tournaments

As a professional card player, DJ Vanessa Rousso has been around the world to compete at several poker competitions. But even with her busy schedule at tournaments like the World Series of Poker and the German Open in Berlin, she still manages to create great mixes and hone her musical skills. How does she balance these activities seamlessly? Let’s find out in this article.

Utilizes online tools
Rousso is quite skilled at using digital tools to her advantage. To hone her skills at playing cards, she first started to play in online tables during her youth. In 2007 World Championship of Online Poker, Vanessa defeated German player Patric Huemmerich and grabbed the $700,000 pot – one of the biggest cash prize in the history of this competition. If you wanted to rub elbows with professionals at an early age, you can win seats for the main event by also playing online. According to PartyPoker, exceptional online gamers can grab seats in the World Series of Poker 2013 Package by playing in their daily free-roll tournaments.
When it comes to developing her musical skills, she enrolled herself in an online class at the Berklee College of Music where she took courses like music production and songwriting. Just last year, she acquired her master certificate in Electronic Music Production from the said school.

Started at an early age
Even as a child, Vanessa juggled her time between different extracurricular activities which made her adept at multitasking. In a feature article from Poker Listings, she learned how to play the violin during her middle school years. On top of that she has joined athletic clubs and became president of the Environmental Club.
Her interest in cards blossomed during her teenage years and she later took her passion to a more competitive level in college by joining in small events at the Hard Rock Casino in Florida. From there, She moved to bigger tournaments like the Ladies World Championship and the European Poker Tour (EPT). Unfortunately, the last two years were not that good for her as German star and fellow musician Marvin Rettenmaier bagged the 2012 tourney and she got railed at the 2013 EPT Main Event on Day 1.

Intense passion for both activities
Another reason why she is good at mixing digital beats and playing on high-stake tables is that she is dedicated to both activities. In an interview with Poker News, Vanessa admitted that balancing her passion for poker and music was a hard task. However learning how to multitask provided her the essential skills she needed to win in every competition. “With poker you need to have some kind of outlet, so school and music became the creative outlet I needed,” Vanessa said. “When I did play poker, I was never stressed or felt bored because I had music to keep being balanced.”
